ABOUT ISNC

To promote the cooperation and exchange between Irish Studies centres and scholars engaged in this area across China and enhance the profile of Chinese scholars in the global Irish Studies networks, the Irish Studies Centre at Beijing Foreign Studies University has jointly founded the Irish Studies Network in China (ISNC), an academic community for Irish Studies, with a number of Irish Studies centres, programmes and scholars from a dozen Chinese universities and research institutes in March 2014. The ISNC is an important component of the cooperation projects outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Embassy of Ireland in Beijing and Beijing Foreign Studies University in relation to support to the Beijing Foreign Studies University Irish Studies Centre, which is funded by the “Cultural Relations with Other Countries” Programme of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland. Currently, the members of the ISNC include Irish Studies centres of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Nanjing University, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Hunan Normal University, etc., and scholars engaged in Irish studies from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University, Beijing International Studies University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Yunan People’s Publishing House, National Taiwan University, etc. The ISNC is committed to promoting the various collaborations among Irish Studies centres and scholars engaged in this field across China, consolidate the multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary curricula and research agenda of the Irish Studies, maximise the potential of Irish Studies in China to contribute to the broader development of Sino-Irish relations, and connect Chinese scholars of Irish Studies to global Irish Studies networks. As an open and inclusive academic community for Irish Studies in China, we warmly welcome Chinese and overseas scholars to join us and jointly promote the development of Irish Studies in China.
