On May 13th, 2015, the Ninth Irish Month of Shanghai Normal University held a closing ceremony on the ninth floor of Tuwen Building on the Fengxian campus. The deputy Irish consulate general in Shanghai Eoghan Duffy, and staff from SNU’s international communication department, School of Foreign Languages and Workshop of Irish Literature, together with representatives from teachers and students attended the closing ceremony.

The closing ceremony opened with gleeful Irish dancing performed by SNU students. Other performances including drama-playing, folk-song singing and poetry reading also received tremendous applauds. In order to commemorate the 150th birthday of the great Irish writer W. B. Yeats, several of his plays were dramatized, including The Land of Heart’s Desire, Cathleen ni Houlihan, and his poem When You Are Old. All of these performances, enacted by students from the School of Foreign Languages under the guidance of professionals, demonstrated their full understanding of the essence of Irish drama, songs and dancing. Their efforts were highly appreciated by Mr. Duffy.
The Ninth Irish Month had achieved a complete success under the collaboration of School of Foreign Languages and Workshop of Irish Literature. It helped nourishing a favorable studying environment for Irish culture and literature on campus, enriched campus culture and provided platforms for talented students.
