The 10th European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies (EFACIS) Conference gathered more than 100 Irish studies scholars worldwide from countries including Italy, Belgium, Austria, France, Greece, the UK, Romania, Hungary, Norway, Germany, Spain and Algeria in University of Palermo, Italy on 3rd to 6th June, 2015. Prominent scholars such as Professor Declan Kiberd delivered keynote speeches.
Professor Wang Zhanpeng of our Centre presented his paper entitled ‘Irish Studies in China—Based on Thoughts on Irish Studies Network in China’. By reviewing the historical development of Irish studies in China and the role of BFSU Irish Studies Centre in the development of Irish studies in China, the paper further explored Chinese scholars’ role in the development of Irish studies globally. Professor Wang Zhanpeng also led a deep discussion on strengthening cooperation between Irish Studies Network in China and EFACIS with Dr. Sean Crosson, President of EFACIS and other board members.
The European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies (EFACIS) is an academic organisation aimed at promoting interest in and supporting the expansion of Irish Studies throughout Europe. Its focus is the study and debate of all aspects of society, culture and literature of the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the Irish Diaspora within the humanities and social sciences.
